Another Yesstyle Haul + Silver Member!

Saturday, October 22, 2011 Category : , , , , , , 5

Yay! Another order from Yesstyle.ca has arrived! :D

59 Seconds, Brushed Fleece Lined Stirrup Tights, $8.40

I love wearing tights with boots in the fall and winter. Boots are definitely my choice of footwear during the rainy seasons 'cause they keep my feet nice and dry <3 Thus, tights are a staple article of clothing for me. These tights are particularly awesome because of three main factors:
  1. They're fleecy inside, which means extra warmth on those cold days
  2. They're stirrup tights, which means they won't ride up your legs during the day
  3. They're so CHEAP! $8.40 for a pair of tights like these? You can't go wrong! :)
Smoothie, Faux-Leather Envelope Clutch, $30.00

I also ordered a cute, mustard yellow envelope clutch for a bright splash of colour against otherwise darker fall/winter shades. You can carry this in two ways as well; it comes with a wrist strap and a shoulder strap if you want to carry it cross-body!

It's big enough to fit one of my thinner textbooks!

I'm liking it so far, even though I haven't worn it out yet. But I realized while the package was being shipped that I got ripped off :( If you're interested, you can find it on eBay here for about $13 after shipping... I think?

Also purchased some beauty products as seen here:

From left to right: Beautymate, Collagen Smooth Nano Eye Mask, $12.00 and Laneige, Strawberry Yogurt Peeling Gel, $22.00

The first product is an eye mask from Beautymate that's supposed to "minimize fine lines, enhance elasticity and bring back the youthful glow of your eyes" and the second is a gel exfoliant from Laneige. These boxes remain unopened on my desk, but I'll try getting a review out on these products soon :)

And last but not least, my favourite item from the order <3:

HOBAK girls, Lace-Up Ankle Boots, $130.00

Paired with the tights from H&M mentioned in this post :)

This is no doubt my most expensive Yesstyle purchase ever but they were too sexy to resist ><!

I haven't worn these babies out yet either (I can't find my shoe protectant spray-thingy!) so I can't say anything about the comfort level, but like I said at the beginning of this blog post: I LOVE BOOTS. So even if they're the most painful boots ever, I'll wear them until they're molded to my feet and comfortable!

So, as a result of this most recent purchase, I have been made a Silver Member on Yesstyle:
"YesStyle is delighted to inform you that you have qualified to be a Silver Member in the YesStyle Elite Club for the year 2012! You can enjoy a 5% discount towards all your purchases effective immediately."
What? I get an additional 5% off all my purchases from now until the end of 2012? Excerrent :3

Ahhh I should probably stop splurging all my hard-earned money on this site... I already have my eye on a few items!?

PUFFY, Distressed Leggings, $22.00

Beccgirl, Cable-Knit Cardigan, $54.00

cocostar, Single Button Blazer, $44.00-$49.50

I can't decide between the red or the pink, 'cause they both create such different looks! I might consider buying both of them... *waste of money*

Distressed Knit Sweater + Woolen Shorts

Tuesday, October 18, 2011 Category : , , , 3

So, so far we've had a week of absolutely gorgeous sunny weather. Even though it's sunny, the air is still brisk, which requires warm layers. This is my ideal autumn weather.

I'm loving it~ ♪

So the other day I went to Granville Island on a photoshoot with my friend Nick who wanted practice shooting humans--yes, with a camera, not a gun--and I decided the weather was perfect for just my distressed knit sweater from Yesstyle.ca :) It's surprisingly warm in spite of the holes, hehe.

One of my favourite shots from the day. It feels very... whimsical to me :)

Another reason to love the fall weather: you get to bring out your assortment of toques and other knit headwear to keep your head nice and warm :) Just beware of hat hair if you decide to keep it on all day!

The full ensemble: distressed knit sweater, gray woolen shorts, black sweater knit tights, and chestnut UGGS

Yes, I like UGGS. Judge me if you wish, but they keep my feet nice and toasty--they're perfect for dry but chilly days like this :)

The full ensemble--from the back!

H&M VIP Launch Party @ Metrotown

Friday, October 14, 2011 Category : , , , , 1

This is a bit late, but as I was saying in my last blog post, I went to the H&M VIP Launch Party as my friend oh so... vonnie's +1. And might I say, I definitely felt like a VIP. See the guy to the right? He was one of the staff guarding the entrance from non-invitees *feels self-important* :D

I had just come from work, and oh so... vonnie said she didn't recognize me *hurt* :(

Alas, I remember when this used to be Mariposa~

I gotta say, I was all *-* when we walked in at first. There was so much stuff everywhere and my eyes wanted to look everywhere at once! The size of this H&M is pretty close to that of its competitor, Forever 21 across the hall--maybe a bit smaller. On the bright side for the guys, the mens' section is definitely bigger than Forever 21's!

Seems smaller than the downtown H&M. And I'm not completely sure, but I think Metrotown does have a one-up on downtown in that they're carrying H&M's new Conscious Collection, which promotes sustainable fashion in that they use "greener materials" for their designs.

So the evening consisted of: a live DJ, catering courtesy of OPUS, and 20% the total purchase! Gotta say, the catering was really a nice touch. Altogether, I consumed two turkey skewers, an appetizer-in-a-cone, a bite-sized pumpkin pie, an espresso-sized cup of french onion soup, a chocolatey-dessert--stole the name of the foods from oh so... vonnie: venison wellington wraps, turkey skewers, ratatouille in a cone, french onion soup and chocolate in a cup. Also had one glass of wine, a glass of some sort of... cocktail...? All I really wanted from the second glass was the two cranberries sitting in the drink! ><

Waiting forever for a change room. The guy I asked to take our picture wasn't meant to be a photographer :(

Can you see us turning red? I'm gonna blame it on a relatively-empty stomach, but I was getting rather tipsy after the second drink. I kept dropping my items while in the change room lineup! ><

oh so... vonnie trying on a wool cape + coat. At almost $200, it's a little pricey for me to even consider trying on, LOL

I'm not sure who this guy is--apparently some bigtime fashion blogger--but oh so... vonnie wanted his picture, so I took a totally creeper shot of him. This would be embarrassing if he ever stumbled across this, ahaha

Tried on lots, but in the end this is what I walked away with:

Zipper-Detail Jersey Tee, $14.95

Furry Vest, $34.95 (yes, it's the same one as oh so... vonnie, ufufu)

Floral Print Tights, $12.95

Love you Vonnie for taking me with youuuu <3

Fall and Autumnal Nails

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 Category : , , , 1

Hi! After enduring a brutal midterm, I'm back after what seems like forever! :D

So the signs of fall are becoming more and more evident, as the leaves are changing in colour wherever you look. Personally, I love this season the best, 'cause you get to layer on the snuggly clothes, the air is crisp not not ice-cold, and sometimes you even get a bit of sun peaking through the shedding trees~ Of course, I'm talking about an ideal autumn day--unfortunately the norm in Vancouver is rain, rain, and more rain.

In any case, I wanted to capture a bit of my favourite season, and so I painted my nails in lieu of fall!

This nail design is meant to symbolize the changing of the leaves from green to that golden colour~

Unfortunately it was my first time using the olive colour and I didn't know it would turn out so sparkly! ><

From left to right: Rimmel's "Rags to Riches", Sephora by OPI's "Charge It!", and then Rimmel's base/top coat

I personally adore Rimmel nail polishes. They last quite a fair amount of time AND the brushes are flat so you can cover more of your nail's surface area with a single stroke! Plus what's not to love about the cute crown logo on the top of the polish?

I received quite a few comments about my nails at work today, so if you'd like to know how the gradient effect was achieved, here are the uber-simple steps:
  1. Apply two coats of "Rags to Riches" from Rimmel and wait for it to dry
  2. Take "Charge It!" from Sephora by OPI and wipe away most of the polish on the lip of the bottle; you want very little product on the brush.
  3. With your dry-ish brush, start applying product around the middle of your nail and upwards in rapid strokes. It's okay if it's imperfect, and it's okay if you don't see much product on your nail; you want it faint so as to achieve the gradient
  4. Re-dip the brush into "Charge It!" and apply more product around the tips so it's a solid colour
  5. Wait to dry and apply top coat!

There you have it! Quick, simple, and no need for extra tools or anything! To keep up with the autumn theme, I think a nice dark red would go nicely with a gold gradient as well. However, you can use this technique with whatever colours you'd like :)

Oh! And I also went to the H&M opening party at Metrotown as my friend ohsovonnie's +1 today. But more on that tomorrow~ Coupled with the non-florescent lighting, my orange room completely distorts the colours of any photos I attempt to take (as you can see in my second picture above; that's WITH a bunch of saturation editing too, LOL).

Anywho, til next time! <3
